My name is Andreea Nicolici and I am an alpine skier with the Development Canadian Alpine Ski Team. I began ski racing at the age of 7 at Camp Fortune Ski Club. Inspired by the winter Olympics and captivated by the camaraderie and thrill of the sport, I knew I wanted to pursue ski racing at the highest level. Up to age 15, I progressed through the Camp Fortune program where I deepened my understanding of the sport, my goals and the process of reaching them. My time there was highlighted by three consecutive overall Provincial Cups as well as my first taste of European skiing at La Scara International Competition.
From Camp Fortune, I moved up to the FIS NCO (National Capital Outaouais) ski team where I became truly immersed in the ski racing lifestyle: traveling the world, chasing the snow and my aspirations. I began to regularly podium at FIS races and I was nominated to the Ski Quebec Alpine Women's team where I joined 7 other highly motivated and competitive girls. Together, we pushed each other into raising our ski racing level.
In my last year with Quebec, I achieved a top 25 slalom and GS NorAm ranking. Additionally, I represented Canada at the World Cup juniors in Haute Savoie, France in February. I am now skiing for the National Development Team. Having the opportunity to train alongside the world cup team, I find I am once again raising my level and pushing forwards with new determination. This year I will be focusing on the NorAm circuit where I am looking to finish ranked in the top 15.
In the long term, I am working towards becoming competitive for the Nor Am podium and being selected to the World Cup National Team.
As those familiar with ski racing might know, it is a huge financial commitment to take on. I owe it to my parents' support that I have had the privilege to come this far in this sport. As I am set on continuing my ski racing journey, I am partnering with Snow Athletes to fundraise in the hopes of covering part of my ski racing costs. Any donations will directly support me as I work towards my goals and would be greatly appreciated.
