Hi, I am Evan Russell, a proud member of the Ontario Snowboard High Performance Program SBX 2024 / 2025 Team. My home training takes place at Beaver Valley Ski Club, with Mixed Movements. I have been a Donek Snowboard SBX Athlete since the 2020 season after I had the opportunity to meet with Donek during my first Nationals Competition in Colorado in 2019. Starting with my first racing season in 2019, I have earned some podium visits in Canada and the USA and have begun seeing some awesome countryside during our drives to many ski clubs for events.
The 2022/2023 season marked my first year as a FIS level athlete and second year as a member of the Ontario Snowboard Development SBX Team. This took me to a new level of competition and the opportunity to ride with and learn from National level athletes.
I competed in my first NorAm event at Gore Mountain in early 2023, and advanced through the timed qualifying round to race in the heats for Eighth finals.
My most memorable achievement to date is earning my first FIS podium at Val Ste Come in 2024. I earned a second FIS podium at Beaver Valley Ski Club, right before breaking my wrist and closing off the ‘24 race season. I am proud of myself for being the fastest qualifier on the course two days in a row.
Junior Worlds is high in my sights for the 2025 season. I am looking forward to traveling with my coach through the summer and fall months for training and race opportunities.
In future years, I am hoping to race on the World Cup Circuit, and qualify to be a Canadian Athlete at the 2030 Olympics.
What I ride: Donek B1 Super Sport
Best advice: Ask questions when you’re on the chair with other racers. Learn from your experiences and remember that any feedback is good feedback. Have the time of your life!
What else do I do? Wakeboard, wakesurf, mountain bike
Shout out: Mom & Dad, Sister Lauren, my sponsor Donek, and my amazing coaches at Mixed Movementswho support me physically and mentally through my journey.
