My name is Matthew Heldman, and I am an 18-year-old alpine snowboard racer from Toronto. I have been passionate about snowboard racing for 11 years, with the past three spent competing in the highly competitive open category.

I primarily race in the NorAm Cup series, where I have achieved significant milestones, including three top-10 finishes in my last four events, highlighted by a personal best of 5th place. Over my NorAm career, I’ve secured top-8 finishes nine times, and my success extends beyond North America. Last season, I was the highest-ranked North American junior at two European Cups, competed in the Junior World Championships, and delivered an 8th-place finish in the team event. I narrowly missed qualifying for the slalom finals by less than a second, a performance that fueled my drive to excel further.

This season, one of my most exciting challenges will be the FISU University Games in Bardonecchia, Italy. These games are one of the largest winter sports events with 2000 athletes attending this year's competitions from all around the world. I am confident in my goal of a top-16 finish in this highly competitive field, which includes some of the best riders in the world. Beyond this, I am aiming high: my goals include securing a top-10 finish at the 2025 Junior World Championships in Poland, earning a spot on the start list for the World Cup event at Val Saint-Côme, and achieving a top-4 finish in a NorAm Cup.

Off the slopes, I’ve dedicated myself to intense off-season training to enhance my strength, flexibility, and technical skills. I also had the incredible opportunity to train alongside the Canadian National Team during a three-week camp in Nakiska. Balancing elite-level competition with academics, I’m proud to pursue my studies full-time at Queen’s University while continuing to chase my dreams on the snowboard racing circuit.

Your support will play a crucial role in helping me achieve these goals and pursue my long-term ambition of earning a spot on the Canadian NextGen team.

Thank you for believing in me and joining me on my journey!
