Simon Fournier – On the Road to the 2026 Olympics in Cortina
I am an independent alpine ski racer proudly representing Canada on the world stage as I chase my Olympic dream. At 27 years old, I am committed to achieving excellence in alpine skiing, with a focus on Slalom as I aim for the 2026 Olympics in Milan/Cortina.
I spent six seasons on the Canadian National Team (2016-2020, 2023-2024) and graduated from the University of Denver in 2023 with a degree in Finance, earning Cum Laude honors. Currently ranked 1st in Canada in Giant Slalom, I hold World Cup spots across all disciplines for the 2024-2025 season, with world rankings of 71st in Slalom and 76th in Giant Slalom. My career highlights include two top 30 finishes at the World Ski Championships in Åre, Sweden in 2019—24th in Slalom and 30th in Giant Slalom—winning the North American Cup Overall and Giant Slalom titles in 2023-2024, becoming the Canadian National Champion in 2022, and competing as a FIS World Cup racer.
Two-Year Plan to the Olympics
Despite my recent success, including being the #1 ranked athlete in Canada in Giant Slalom, I was not named to the national team for the upcoming season. As a result, I will be racing independently, joining the European-based private team World Racing Academy (WRA) to receive the support needed to compete at the highest level. My focus will shift entirely to Slalom, where I believe I have the best chance to excel. My goal is to recreate a national team environment tailored to my needs, giving me the best opportunity to achieve success on the World Cup circuit and ultimately qualify for the 2026 Olympics. To secure my Olympic spot, I aim to reach a top 25 World Cup ranking in Slalom by 2026.
Funding Needs
As I embark on this independent journey, funding is essential to cover the costs associated with competing at the highest level. Key expenses include hiring a technician to manage my equipment, which I will share with one or two other athletes at WRA, coaching fees for one coach to travel with me throughout the season, and extensive travel expenses including flights, accommodation, vehicles, race entries, and lift tickets. Support from sponsors and donors will be crucial in helping me achieve my goals and represent Canada on the world stage.
