My name is Anderson Perry, and I am a 10th grade student at Halifax West high school. I have been snowboarding since I was five years old. I have been competing in slalom and giant slalom and on the Nova Scotia Provincial Alpine Snowboard race team. During my 2024 season, I was successful in winning the Canadian U15 Championship, Quebec U15 Championship, 6 x silver medal podium finishes in USASA events and other local podium finishes. My goal is to reach the 2027 Canada Games.
The Nova Scotia snowboard team has lots of events, Provincial and National wide. We have lots of training and hard work we put in to reach our goals. Due to the lack of snow here in Nova Scotia we have to travel to places early, and frequently throughout the season, so we have the same amount of snow time as other provinces with snow. Some of the places we travel to are; Alberta, New Brunswick, New England, Quebec, Ontario and some of these trips we hope to go on twice a year. These trips are very crucial because we need more time on snow and it's hard to get that in Nova Scotia on a consistent basis.
The trips mainly help us train but some also have training camps that also help us improve. There are also competitive races and competitions on these trips. One of the biggest factors for going on these trips is the money and funding. To be able to go on all of these trips we need to have funding and sponsors to help us achieve our goals. Your support can also help with new gear and essential things for racing.
One of my goals this year is to place well at the Junior Nationals in March. This trip is a very big one and is also very expensive.
I hope you will consider supporting me as I train and compete to represent Nova Scotia.
